too small…

8 12 2018

Above the Clouds

We live too small, too often –

small world,

small dreams,

small mind,

small spirit,

small heart,

within small words like “either” and “or”.

This, the way of a heart cloaked within scarcity –

where fear and control is the currency;

where the wages are integrity, authenticity, and self-worth;

where enough is inadequate;

where expectations gather like hungry wolves.

We feed these wolves too often,

unaware it is our own souls we throw into their midst –

believing we can stave off such appetites –

satiating hunger…

starving ours.

It feels safer for our egos to live in the familiar…

Yet…

The Light in darkness;

the breath for the breathless;

the hope for the hopeless…

is that there is more to this life –

a greater freedom

a greater openness

a greater Love

a more voluminous way to live…

into expansive words like “both” and “and”;

each moment as sacred.

It is a paradox, I know.

Backwards to our minds –

where controlling leads to narrowness

and vulnerability leads to Life;

where leading with a yielding heart –

rather than grasping and manipulating,

births freedom;

where embracing the unknown is the way to Unity…

This is the Way –

to more…much more…

so much more than scarcity allows us to imagine.

How do we want to live?

a small question…

But in the asking –

a journey begins…

to live not too small…

light on a slant…

13 10 2018

Foothills Parkway

I sit – the late afternoon sun kisses my face;

backlit cerulean clouds lingering, encircled by a transcendent halo.

It is late September and the sun falls on the earth at a slant.

Angled light bathing golden asters, hummingbirds, butterflies…

sweet, Holy Light.

I become very aware – sunlight saturates me as well.

And as Light on a slant does,

deeper questions are revealed –

Will I risk grieving the loss of who I think I am

for the truth of who I truly am?

Or is remaining in defined, confined aspirations

worth the loss of what I most desire?

Night Sky

23 12 2016

dsc_0006

It is within night’s darkness that light is manifested most clearly.

Lying down, faces gazing toward the starred-black dome;

the Presence of Slowness washes over us;

stillness bathes us;

cicadas sing love songs to our soul.

This is where we are truly known.

This is where we truly know.

Yet, there will be times when this same darkness

seems like an endless cavern extinguishing our faith;

the air feels heavy with shadows;

our imminent demise gathers momentum;

we lie in fetal position;

we bathe in fear and anxiety;

faces buried in the sanctuary of a pillow;

hawking voices sing songs of hopelessness . . .

The invitation remains –

be still.

The essence of our being will not be decimated.

We will not lose ourselves, despite ego’s contrary voice.

Let another carry Light’s hope when you cannot.

Trying to escape –

moving so quickly and carelessly in such darkness –

is much too dangerous.

We will remain unchanged.

But in the remaining –

within the darkness, while our spirit-eyes adjust,

ready yourself to welcome evidence of Light;

the glimmer of Loves soft Light;

the warmth of Love beside us in blinding darkness;

in what seems a vast emptiness.

We will begin to discover ourselves – our true, authentic selves.

Born out of the darkness in which we sit;

created by Love that embraces us… always.

This is where we are closest to Knowing.

This is where we are fully known.

Looking up or down, then, it matters not;

Light is . . .

in the darkest night;

in the brightest day;

in each of us –

always . . .

in darkness, seeing clearly…

It is the night sky where we see light most clearly.

The Presence of Slowness washes over us;

lying on our backs;

bathing in stillness;

looking up;

cicadas singing love songs to our soul.

This is where we are known.

This is where we know.

It is in darkness’ depths where light seems helpless,

persuaded by the gravity of our great void.

Our imminent demise gaining momentum;

lying in fetal position;

bathing in fear and anxiety;

looking down;

hawking voices singing songs of hopelessness.

This is where we are closest to Knowing.

This is where we are fully known.

And when caverns of darkness consume faith;

when the air is heavy with shadows –

be still.

The essence of our being will not be decimated;

we will not lose ourselves, despite ego’s contrary belief;

but we begin to shine.

Trying to escape –

moving so carelessly in such dark, is too dangerous.

We will remain unchanged.

But in the remaining,

through the darkness, while our spirit eyes adjust;

be ready to welcome evidence of Light;

the glimmer of Loves soft light;

the warmth of Love beside us in vast emptiness.

We will begin to discover ourselves…

our true, authentic selves.

Born of the darkness in which we sit;

created by Love that embraces us… always.

Looking up or down, then, it matters not.

It is in darkness where Light is most visible. . .

Hidden Mountains

19 09 2013

South Carolina Sunset

Light – beautifully, gently – reaches out to kiss creation

Illuminating the hidden mountains we climb…

Never to judge…

Never to belittle…

But to help us know…

we do not climb alone;

to help us see…

the Light that is greater than the looming peaks;

to help us feel…

 the Life-Light* dancing in the darkness…

a darkness that cannot contain the Life-Light* within.

Divided Life

Frozen Figure

Who is this frozen figure that stands before me?

A mirror’s reflection of what lies within?

DSC_0837What is this dark mountain before me silhouetted by loves light rising?

A likeness of the divided life lived?

Let this day dawn with the courage to risk…

courage to name the permafrost that encapsulates our soul –

                        may the melting begin…

courage to invite Light to break into the dark places in which we hide –

                        may the dance of wholeness begin to flow…Sun Through Leaf Oct. 2011
