A Road to No Where?

28 04 2012

Image

A road to no where?
Barren land?
Maybe possibility…
Maybe sacred space…
With openness; a first step…
Dare I risk myself?

This taken at Shiprock in New Mexico – a sacred place for the Navajo people.

Sky On Fire…

26 04 2012

Image

Sky on fire…
From my window, dawn creation asks,
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
(Mary Oliver, The Summer Day)

Mountain Tops and Valleys

Image

Mountain tops and valleys;
A symbiotic relationship;
An invitation to life…

(a Smoky Mountain sunrise near the North Carolina/Tennessee border)

Earth wakes…

22 04 2012

Image,

Earth wakes,
Light bathes creation,
Breathless wonder…

(This photo was taken last January just after sunrise in Cades Cove, Smoky Mountains)

We are not alone…

20 04 2012

Image

Sometimes life’s view seems to be from the end of a stripped, desolate tree…
Sometimes our living seems to be perched on a jagged ledge.

Winter’s wind blowing…
Light fading…
Holding on for life…

We look down and realize – we are not alone.
Presence.

Sunset’s kiss…

18 04 2012

Image

Kissed by the day’s last light…
anticipated rest…
hope – waiting for a sunrise reunion…

This was taken last fall on the Choptank River near Easton, MD.

Dare I Go In?

15 04 2012

Image

Dare I go in?

I’m already standing in light . . .

Now invited into darkness?

Do I risk the hope of Light on the other side?

Cascades of life..

13 04 2012

Image

Cascades of life –
Crashing tones…
Melodic melodies…

This photo was taken in the Smoky Mountains – Ramsey’s Cascades – on a chilly, rainy day…worth it!

These cascades remind me of a line from Wendell Berry’s poem, The Real Work…

“The impeded stream is the one that sings.”

Drinking deeply…

11 04 2012

Image

Drinking deep the nectar of life…

the spirit flourishes…

My wife, a hospice chaplain, sees the hummingbird as a symbol of the human spirit (studies have shown the difference between the weight of a person before death versus just after death is about equal to that of a hummingbird).

O that my spirit would hold things so lightly and drink so deeply.

Light rises…

8 04 2012

Image

Light rises…
Darkness fades…
Waves of Light break upon our shores…

On this January morning on the shores of Cape May, a cold wind blew against my back, but gradually – like love – the light broke over the horizon, making a path across the water…riding the waves to my feet…finally warming my face…my heart…my life.
